Learn how to make your own unique mug in this live online class! You will discover so many possibilities for building that perfect mug without using a pottery wheel.
This is a so-called slab building technique and we are going to create a marble-patterned slab first, then build a mug out of it. The emphasis of this class is on learning how to create unique patterning fresh clay, playing with colours in clay creation without (or prior to) glazing and hand building a basic shaped mug.
Within 80 minutes, you will have the pleasure to learn this technique, and you may want to keep perfecting your new skill, hence you will have enough material supplied for two mugs and enough tips and instructions to continue developing your art.
If you wish, you can choose to add a handle or a “thumb holder” to it additionally. You will be supplied with sufficient materials to build your mug and to develop a multicoloured pattern that is embedded in a mug.
Your teacher Irina will demonstrate making a unique texture pattern or marble effect as shown in the photos - the options are numerous.
Your teacher will also instruct you on how and where to fire your piece and all the rest you need to do to complete your perfectly functional mug and be able to drink your morning tea or coffee from your art piece. It does feel great drinking from something hand-built!
Express shipping is included in the price.
Please note:
Everything made of ceramic must be fired in ceramic kilns. The colour that you see inside of the mug is a glaze. Glazing comes after the first firing and must be fired again. Firing is cheap and you will get the information on where to do it during the class.
Please keep in mind that all pottery changes colours and appearance upon firing. The contrast and brightness of colours are significantly increased by kiln firing (compare photographs from workshops versus finished mugs).
At the checkout, you can choose the option to order the tumbler from us (cylinder cup).
Tumbler’s purpose is to help us build the mug, if you are confident to do it without it, you are more than welcome to.
If you are using one from your home- make sure that is either cylindrical shape or wider towards the top so that you can take it out.
It can’t have a handle nor a relief.
Add-on available for this class
  • Little Turntable to shape the mug more easily ($10)
You can add these when you book (optional).

Hi, I'm Irina.
I like to introduce myself as a sculptor, although I'm engaged in different art disciplines too. I have never had another profession, nor have I wanted one. I fell in love with three-dimensional art at a very early age which came to me naturally, as I was born in a family of artists. It was the world I've grown up in, a measure of value around me.
I have graduated from Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture, and with a bit of luck, I had a chance to work internationally and gain great experience in different industries and media. Cooperating with professionals from other creative fields has perfectioned my skills and broadened the views of my artistic expression.
I have tried to gather all the projects I am engaged in on this website, showcase it, sell and teach my art. Always open for the new projects with fellow creatives, just get in touch.
