This hands-on course introduces teens to the fun and therapeutic world of pottery, covering wheel throwing and and various decoration techniques.
Throughout the 5 weeks, students will explore the fundamentals of pottery, from shaping clay on the wheel to decorating an glazing their pieces. Our studio offers a wide selection of beautiful glaze colours, allowing each teen to add a personal touch to their creations. By the end of the course, students will have a collection of their own handcrafted pottery to take home, showcasing their newly acquired skills and creativity.
Pottery offers a unique blend of fun and therapeutic benefits, making it a particularly rewarding activity for teens. The tactile nature of working with clay provides a sensory experience that can be both calming and invigorating. Also, the satisfaction of creating something tangible with our own hands brings a sense of accomplishment and joy. Bettina offers a unique therapeutic approach to pottery, drawing on her psychology background (PhD) and sensorimotor art therapy training. Her 'Wheelfuness' approach incorporates somatic mindfulness to enhance presence and stillness at the spinning wheel.
Bettina's pottery journey began as a hobby in 2015. As an academic with a busy mind, she found the tactile nature of working with clay very relaxing. In 2019, she opened her own studio and has since enjoyed helping others discover the zen of pottery.
To further explore the therapeutic benefits of working with clay, Bettina recently undertook training in Clay Field Therapy® and now also offers somatic clay therapy sessions.
