Looking to advance your current sewing skills? Come along to Sydney Creative's sewing class to make your own elasticated shorts or pants.
The pattern we use comes in different lengths, choose to make:
  • Short shorts
  • Bermuda Shorts
  • Knee Length
  • Ankle length
  • Full Length
Our pattern sizing is from size 6 - 20, if you are on either end of this scale and would like to double-check our pattern will fit, you can measure your hips with a measuring tape, stand with heels apart and measure around the fullest part of the hip and bottom area all the way around. The minimum measurement for our pattern is a hip measurement of 88cm, or the largest is 128cm.
In this intermediate class, you'll be guided through cutting your pattern and fabric, where your teacher will explain the symbols in the pattern and how to follow them to prepare your material. Previous sewing experience is essential to follow along, with a basic understanding of a sewing machine required. If you're not at this level yet, our Sewing For Beginners Class will help you get there!
The pattern for the shorts is slightly more complex and a natural next step from our Sewing For Beginners class. You'll be guided through the entire process by your experienced sewing teacher, and learn the following skills:
  • Reading a commercial pattern
  • Measuring yourself to determine the correct size
  • Cutting a commercial pattern to your size
  • Pre-treating fabric
  • Cutting your fabric to the pattern specifications
  • Attaching a waistband
  • Adding elastic to the waistband
  • Garment Construction
  • Learn our DIY overlocking method
  • Pressing seams open
  • Hemming
We'll send you home with the pattern and you'll receive an email with the pattern instructions to make another pair at home.

Our story began in 2018 in a small Redfern studio. With only one desk and one sewing machine, our first class was published and we haven't looked back. Our passion for the arts coupled with bringing people together, brought our vision of launching a creative hub to life.
In our modern world, everything moves quickly, we have adapted to a fast-paced environment and sometimes it can be hard to slow ourselves down. Sydney Creative is a place for people to relax, regroup and find a creative outlet that will hopefully aid in bringing people a sense of achievement, fulfilment and joy.
Today, our classes run from our own venue in Redfern. We run lots of different creative classes from Sewing to Jewellery, painting and lots more, we love following the trends and developing new classes for our customers to enjoy.
