What you'll do
At this fun group sewing workshop in Sydney, you will begin by selecting your favourite fabric from the range on offer, and be guided through the cutting process before jumping on the sewing machine.Your teacher will guide you through setting up the sewing machine, you will learn about the different stitches, when best to use them and how to sew straight lines.Once you've had a practice run on some scrap material, we'll put your new skills to work. You will sew a simple square cushion cover with guidance throughout. Everything is included in this class, including the use of our sewing machines.*It's recommended to book in advance as this class is often sold out weeks ahead*What you'll learn:
- How to measure, mark and cut your fabric for the envelope cushion cover.
- Use different tools for a cleaner finish.
- Learn how to sew in a straight line.
- Learn how to set up a simple sewing machine, wind the bobbin and thread the machine.
- Use different stitches such as straight and zig-zag.
- Hem edges to create a neat finish.
- Learn how to secure raw edges from fraying without needing an expensive overlocker.
- Free rescheduling with 7+ days notice.
- A rescheduling fee of $50 per person will apply when rescheduling with less than 7 days notice.
- Participants are asked not to bring their own sewing machine to this class as it affects the flow of the session. To learn how to use your own machine, please book a private class with us.
- Unfortunately our venue is not wheelchair accessible due to two steps leading into the venue

No previous knowledge required. This class is for absolute beginners and not suitable for those with previous sewing experience.

Our story began in 2018 in a small Redfern studio. With only one desk and one sewing machine, our first class was published and we haven't looked back. Our passion for the arts coupled with bringing people together, brought our vision of launching a creative hub to life. In our modern world, everything moves quickly, we have adapted to a fast-paced environment and sometimes it can be hard to slow ourselves down. Sydney Creative is a place for people to relax, regroup and find a creative outlet that will hopefully aid in bringing people a sense of achievement, fulfilment and joy. Today, our classes run from our own venue in Redfern. We run lots of different creative classes from Sewing to Jewellery, painting and lots more, we love following the trends and developing new classes for our customers to enjoy.
