Brought to you by the Founder of Art Hut in London's Battersea Park.
Do you feel you are not very creative but willing to take some creative steps, in a non-competitive environment? This workshop offers a novel way to meet new people, tune in to your creativity and/or nature connection, and see what inspiration emerges. You might surprise yourself.
Taking time out for creativity and nature observation, in any form, can help to alter our pace or provide a fresh perspective.
Past participants have described their experience as freeing, exciting, relaxing, challenging, fun, and a creative stretch.
"The creative fun of Mel's workshop got my subconscious rummaging around a favourite attic in the back of my mind. It inspired me to write a brief to inject playfulness into a current work project, which also led to a valuable reconnection with a former colleague". Dr Ken Hudson, PhD Organisational Creativity.
Class outline:
Main session at 2:30 pm
The first part is a warm-up, involving a series of short tasks to help get you into a creative mode. You will experiment with broad creativity concepts, nature themes, and the basic mixed media materials provided.
Following a short break, the second part is more self-guided and contemplative during which you can continue experimenting or develop a concept further. Go at your own pace, or perhaps collaborate if someone has a similar creative interest.
Mingle until 5:30 pm
After the main session, introduce yourself to others, or continue working on your mini creations until 5:30 pm.
Note: Please meet at the Harris Street entrance of BUILDING FIFTEEN at 2:25pm for a prompt 2:30pm start. Latecomers will not be able to gain access to the building. Proof of age will not be checked but please only book if you and your guest(s) are aged 20s/30s. The workshop is entirely indoors. In keeping with the time-out theme, everyone will be required to switch off electronic devices. No photos, no filming.

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 10 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we'll cancel the class; in this case we'll inform you and allow you to get a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.

I facilitate novel ways for organisations and individuals to seek fresh perspectives and innovate. A creative breakthrough is powerful, and creative pursuits spark original ideas or self-improvement.
Mostly self-taught, since 2012 I have delivered many hundreds of hours of creative sessions for adults - kindly hosted by a range of public and private organisations, festivals, and social groups in London and Sydney.
As a Curator I produce group exhibitions to showcase professional and aspiring artists alike. In London from 2013 to 2020 I exhibited work by ages 3 to 83 at public exhibitions. For five years I was the Independent Curator of Art Hut for workshops and exhibitions in a quiet English garden setting, kindly hosted by a therapeutic gardening charity serving the London public. My themes of focus involve nature, sustainability, social action, citizenship, dance, music, creative curiosity, and political art. I collaborate with professional and aspiring artists across sculpture, painting, illustration, mixed media, printmaking, dance, poetry, and theatre.
I specialise in a range of soft skills for communications, engagement, and creativity developed throughout my sustainability career and as personal hobbies. My work has been dedicated to environmental and community-based initiatives since 1998.
My workshops are one of the many ways I express and stretch my own creativity.
