In this story:
Merryl Sacher wasn’t particularly drawn to arts and crafts as a kid, so it wasn’t until she built her home in the late 90s that she discovered her creative side. It was coloured glass that caught her interest, so she decided to teach herself how to make mosaics.
The mindful process had her hooked and soon Merryl started her own studio to sell and create mosaic art. Tucked away next to a nail salon, women wandered in waiting for their nails to dry, and Merryl quickly realised they were more interested in learning how to make their own mosaics than buying them.
Her studio transformed into a vibrant community space where women could come together to create, bond and develop friendships in a warm and creative environment.
Now, over a decade later, Merryl’s Mosaics and Glass Studio has expanded to all things colourful glass, from beginner-friendly to intricate mosaic making classes and engaging glass fusing workshops, catered towards men, women and children of all ages and skill levels.
Join one of Merryl’s workshops in Melbourne’s quiet, leafy suburb of Caulfield today and discover a new passion for mosaic and glass fusing for yourself!
I’m on a mission to…
“Provide a positive and creative experience to everyone who enters my studio.”
Mosaic making can show you…
“How to enjoy the moment and that you’re capable of making a piece of art that you’ll be proud of. By focusing on cutting your mosaic tiles, thinking about your colours and fitting the pieces together, you forget about everything else and just get into the moment.
“Making a mosaic is a very mindful, relaxing and creative experience and many of my customers and their partners tell me that it is the cheapest form of therapy! And the best part is, it’s easy for anyone to make something beautiful.”
Crafting helps you connect…
“Either with yourself, where you become relaxed in body and mind, or with other people in the room. I always enjoy the sound of chatter between students or gentle singing along with music during class.”
Glass art is perfect for beginners…
“Because you can create and make something beautiful at any level, whether it’s something very simple or very complex. The best way to approach making a mosaic or fused glass piece is to come along just to have some creative fun.”
My favourite part about teaching is…
“Helping nurture people’s creativity and seeing them feel happy and proud of their work. I enjoy creating a calm, inclusive and warm environment. I think my studio works well because it enables me to be who I am and with that comes a calmness.”
You’ll leave my class with…
“Inner peace, a sense of pride and a good piece of work!”
