I was a bit worried before booking since English is not our first language, but the teacher was very kind, explaining each step clearly. This soap making workshop was a blast, it was so much fun measuring mixing blending and the lovely aromas wafted in the air. We got to make an abundance of soap with the help of a very warm and friendly and giving teacher, she was very knowledgeable and imparted all her soap making knowledge on to us. Knife Making Class: Forge a Knife
I was given the session as a birthday gift and it did not disappoint. Ron is a fantastic teacher with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Starting with a flat piece of mild steel we create a great little utility knife in the traditional blacksmith way. Ron teaches us how to shape and fashion a knife using a forge, hammer and anvil, beveling the edge using a blacksmith technique then a belt grinderI was given the session as a birthday gift and it did not disappoint. Ron is a fantastic teacher with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Starting with a flat piece of mild steel we create a great little utility knife in the traditional blacksmith way. Ron teaches us how to shape and fashion a knife using a forge, hammer and anvil, beveling the edge using a blacksmith technique then a belt grinder to touch up the profile. Ron teaches us how to harden the edge, before giving it a final grind then home the edge using a whetstone. The final touch is the creation of a nice leather sheath to keep the knife safe and sound. We use hand punches and rivets to create the sheath which can be made in a number of different colours. Ron runs a great sessions where we learn some of the basic blacksmithing fundamentals, get to create a cool knife and leather sheath in the process. And he does a nice cup of coffee, biscuits and lamingtons for morning tea. A great gift for a birthday! + more
