In this story:
Rebecca Doyle’s childhood was mostly spent playing with cardboard, glue and glitter, so it was only natural that she reconnected with her love for arts and crafts later in life.
After a year-long break from her high-pressure career in the fashion industry, spurred by feeling burnt out, Rebecca opened up her own creative business, Made by Me Workshop. The vision? To help people tap into their creativity and find a new way to practice mindfulness while making high-quality, handmade items from scratch.
Rebecca teaches everything from resin art to punch needle to candle making, alongside a team of passionate local Sydney artists and makers. As for her favourite craft, well you’ll have to ask her yourself!
If you’re ready to tap into your inner creative, Rebecca’s St Peters studio is the ultimate place in Sydney to do just that. An old record-making factory turned airy, bright warehouse, the space is vibrant and colourful, filled with handmade artworks on the wall and leafy plants sprawled around. We promise you won’t be shy of inspiration!
When I'm crafting…
“I like to play music, sometimes loudly or quietly and I find this helps to narrow my train of thought and focus my mind. I love it when I can enter a full state of focus, where nothing else is occupying my mind. It's a meditative process, a time when my mind quiets and I find joy in the tactile experience of creating.”
My favourite part of every workshop is…
“Seeing that transformative moment when students look at what they've created and experience a deep sense of pride and accomplishment. It's particularly fulfilling when someone who initially doubted their creative abilities discovers their own inner artist.”
Come into my studio and you’ll find…
“Handmade pieces everywhere and more plants than I can probably keep alive. We have a great lounge that I made from an old trolley, a hanging chair and three enormous cocoons that I made for Sydney Craft Week a few years ago.
I wanted to design a space that is not only fun but also inviting and inspiring, allowing students to feel comfortable and ready to explore their creativity.”
We ensure sustainability by…
“Helping our students make things they really love and want to keep as I would hate to see their creativity turned into a landfill. We work with really good quality materials like our locally sourced and handmade boards made from renewable timber used in our resin art classes.
Not only does this help the planet but it also supports other small businesses. We also reuse as many tools and materials as we can across multiple classes.”
My biggest crafting fail is…
“Those that happen while I’m teaching but I know that the greatest learnings come from failures and I always take the opportunity to turn them into teachable moments.”
