Join this Melbourne workshop and learn the art of shucking and how to better savour these exquisite treasures of the sea!
Perfect for complete beginners, our experienced instructor will safely guide you through the process step by step, making it a fun afternoon for all.
We start the day by eating oysters of course! From there we learn about how oysters grow and how important they are for the environment.
You’ll discover the unique flavours of oysters that are grown in different areas. On the day, we like to try at least three different oyster types, showcase the idea of provenance in oysters and lift the lid on this thing called merroir.
We then move on to learning how to shuck. Here, our instructor guides you through this process and the best part is you get to eat everything you open.
We will finish the day with a shucking challenge where the person with the most consistently presented oysters is awarded a winner's prize. All this makes for thirsty work and you are welcome to enjoy a drink with our host in the bar.

Hi I’m James and I love oysters!
Most of the oysters eaten in Australia are not live or native and I hope to share the joy of learning about tasting different oysters and the rewards that come from getting confident in opening (shucking) them yourself.
Coming from a lengthy background of working in some of Melbournes best restaurants I’ve held a lifelong love of oysters but have often felt they are a bit of an unknown to most people despite being loved.
People love the classes I have conducted so far.
My classes are fun and interactive and will give foodies a new dinner party or picnic trick to impress their family and friends. You also get to eats loads of amazing oysters in our classes.
