Join us for an exciting workshop where you will learn the craft of modern lampshade making without any sewing or glueing involved. In this Sydney-based workshop, lampshade maker Kate Malfroy from The Lampshade Workroom will guide you through the process of creating your own bespoke lampshade using professional shade-making supplies.
During the workshop, Kate will share tips and tricks of the trade, ensuring you leave with a beautiful, finished lampshade. You can choose between making a medium-sized drum shape or a tapered shade, with drum shades being the easier option.
To ensure your lamp shade suits your style we ask you to bring your own fabric; we recommend lightweight cotton, poly-cotton mix, linen, or any other lightweight natural fibres are ideal choices. Please avoid fabrics with loose, open weaves, upholstery weight, or slinky, silky sheer or stretchy fabrics. Please bring a minimum-size piece of full-width fabric (110cm wide x 50cm long).
If you'd like to turn your lampshade into a pair or make another style entirely, take-home lampshade kits will be available for purchase.
We'll provide tea, coffee, and some treats to keep you energised throughout the workshop. However, if you want to make this an extra special occasion, feel free to bring your own drinks and party treats. This workshop not only allows you to express your creativity and learn a new skill, but it also provides a great opportunity to connect with other crafters and lampshade making enthusiasts.
Don't miss out on the chance to learn how to create your own bespoke lampshade in our lovely workshop space in St Peters Sydney. Unleash your creativity, connect with others, and take home a beautiful finished piece.
Cancellation Policy: please note that all bookings for this workshop are final and strictly non-refundable. If you're unable to attend, you can send someone in your place. In the unlikely event that we don't reach the minimum number of participants required to run the workshop, we may cancel the class. In such cases, you will receive a full refund or the option to reschedule if new dates are available.

Knowledge required
No prior knowledge, or skills are required - this is Lampshade Making 101 - suitable for beginners from age 16 years+. Participants will need to have a reasonable amount of dexterity in their hands ie: they will need to be able to cut accurately with scissors.
Tip: of the two shapes available in this workshop - drum shades are definitely easier (ie: less fiddly)
What you'll get
  • All the supplies are included in the workshop fee (except fabric - see below note). This includes professional quality adhesive backings, frames, and tools.
  • We have (good) coffee and tea making facilities and some treats to get you through the session, if you prefer a barista-made coffee, pop into Aslan Cafe (just up the road) before the workshop.

Made by Me Workshop is about helping people to connect with their "inner creative" and have some fun while making beautiful things from quality materials in our friendly & vibrant studio space in the heart of the inner west!
Established in 2017 after Rebecca Doyle decided to take a career break and chose to revisit her childhood love for arts & crafts. Rebecca grew up in a large family where money was tight, after school activities where mostly homegrown and usually involved a sheet of cardboard, a glue stick and some glitter! It is probably no surprise to learn that Rebecca followed a creative path to study Fashion & Textile Design at University!
After a few more decades (than Rebecca will publicly admit to) and a long and varied career in the fashion industry, Rebecca wanted to get back to creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind objects - Made By Me Workshop is the result of where this path led.
Rebecca loves that moment of pride that comes over each participant's face when they look at what they have created and say to themselves "Wow - I made this & I love it!"
Made by Me Workshop run a variety of creative workshops, hen’s parties, private parties and corporate events from their warehouse space in St Peters including Resin Art, Resin Jewellery & Mould Making, Soap Making, Terrazzo Homewares, Punch Needle, Macrame and many more.
