Join us in our fabulous creative space in St. Peters for a special embroidery class with Amy Jones of Grandpa Cat! In this workshop, you will learn how to create beautiful, textured, moss-inspired embroidery, incorporating natural crystals and gemstones.
You will learn how to:
  • Create your own moss-like composition, full of texture and vibrant colour.
  • Master four essential embroidery stitches: Turkey work, French knots, long and short stitch, and satin stitch, using a variety of silk, wool, and cotton threads.
  • Learn basic beading techniques.
You’ll also have the opportunity to view original textile art pieces for inspiration and gain insight into the design process when planning your own piece.
What you'll get:
You'll be provided with a complete embroidery kit, including everything you need to create a finished piece. The kit contains:
  • A variety of threads in silk, wool, and cotton, all in beautiful shades of green.
  • Linen fabric.
  • A collection of glass beads and natural gemstone beads.
  • A small embroidery hoop.
  • Chenille, beading, and embroidery needles.
We’ll also be providing refreshments and a delicious vegetarian light lunch for all attendees. If you have any specific dietary requirements, please let us know in advance, and we’ll do our best to cater to these.

Amy Jones is a textile artist whose work, inspired by botanical themes, blends abstract and figurative elements to explore memory and change. Using a mix of new and recycled materials, her dreamlike creations evoke themes of love, loss, and renewal, with stitching as a meditative process. Amy also teaches textile workshops across Sydney and her work has been featured on the cover of Annabel Crabb and Leigh Sales' book Well Hello.

She teaches weekly workshops from her home studio in Perth W.A. and loves sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for making.

Made by Me Workshop is about helping people to connect with their "inner creative" and have some fun while making beautiful things from quality materials in our friendly & vibrant studio space in the heart of the inner west!
Established in 2017 after Rebecca Doyle decided to take a career break and chose to revisit her childhood love for arts & crafts. Rebecca grew up in a large family where money was tight, after school activities where mostly homegrown and usually involved a sheet of cardboard, a glue stick and some glitter! It is probably no surprise to learn that Rebecca followed a creative path to study Fashion & Textile Design at University!
After a few more decades (than Rebecca will publicly admit to) and a long and varied career in the fashion industry, Rebecca wanted to get back to creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind objects - Made By Me Workshop is the result of where this path led.
Rebecca loves that moment of pride that comes over each participant's face when they look at what they have created and say to themselves "Wow - I made this & I love it!"
