I am a fibre-based interdisciplinary artist based in Cammeraygal/North Sydney. I hold a Bachelor of Architectural Studies from the University of New South Wales, and a Master of Fine Arts from the Fibre department at the Cranbrook Academy of Art.
My practice stems from a fascination with kawaii culture, psychoanalysis and craft histories. Drawing influences from manga and anime, I employ textile techniques to investigate the ambivalent nature of issues concerning infantilisation, fetish, domesticity and more.
In many cultures, textiles have functioned as a narrative historical device before the invention of written language. Yet for centuries language has played a major role in reinforcing the patriarchy. I believe in the power of the subversive stitch, and hope that by sharing my knowledge of fibre practices, others will be encouraged to experiment with needlecraft and establish a sense of agency.
