Sally Mowbray

Sally has amassed more than 15 years experience in adult art education. Between 1997 and 2002, she delivered courses in painting, drawing and collage at The Mary Ward Centre in London. It was a great foundation for her current role at SCC, where she has tutored since 2008. Sally has also worked as an ArtEst Art School painting and drawing tutor.

In the classroom, Sally’s students can expect one-to-one tuition as well as group learning opportunities, all supported by excellent visual resources and learning materials. Sally encourages students to interpret given projects in an individual way. Her teaching style is informed but non-prescriptive, and is underpinned by critical thinking objectives. She places a strong emphasis on practical experience as well as knowledge acquisition.
She aims to help students of whatever level to find their way into their painting practice in such a way that they will eventually be able to assess their own work and feel confident to take on more complex projects both in class and independently.
Sally’s lessons are biased towards figurative/representational painting, which isn’t a feature of her own work but which she feels is an important foundation from which students can progress.
