What you'll do
Looking for fun things to do in Sydney? Join a woodworking class with Wood Academy in Marrickville and learn a new skill! In this two-day course, you will learn how to accurately mark out and cut woodworking joints by hand using a basic set of tools. The course will cover the design, layout and cutting of a range of fundamental woodworking joints. If you've never tried woodworking, this course will teach you fundamental knowledge that will set you down the woodworking path. A variety of woodworking techniques will be taught with a focus on developing the marking out, hand sawing and chisel techniques necessary to successfully cut joints by hand. You can experiment with the different types of timber we'll have on hand to get an understanding of how different timbers work.Throughout the course, we will also discuss tool selection and preparation, joint design and selection as well as the use of jigs and aids. Learning joint selection, design and making are essential if you'd like to continue down the woodworking path either by hand or power tools. The knowledge and experience gained from completing this course will allow you to choose, mark out and cut the correct joints for future furniture making projects.

Suitable for beginners with no experience up to intermediate students. Children 14+ are welcome to participate in this course. Please note, we require a parent or guardian to be on the premises for the duration of the class if a minor is attending.
What you'll get
- Tools provided however we do encourage students who have their own to bring their own.
- Take home everything you make.
What to bring
- PPE will be supplied however students wishing to bring their own should come with a face mask, safety glasses or goggles and earmuffs or earplugs.
- Closed shoes are a mandatory requirement for all students.
