Whether you’re just starting out or looking to advance your woodturning skills, our “Natural Edge Bowls” course is designed for students of all levels, from beginners with little to no experience to those at an intermediate level. This two-day course will guide you through the fascinating process of turning natural edge bowls, providing hands-on experience and expert instruction in this unique woodworking craft.
What You’ll Learn
Material Preparation: Learn how to select and prepare materials specifically for natural edge bowls, setting the foundation for a successful project.
Design Balance: Discover how to achieve harmony in your designs, even when working with challenging, uneven edges.
Fundamental and Advanced Techniques: Beginners will learn the basics of woodturning, including how to safely ride the bevel, while more experienced students can refine their skills with techniques for turning ghost uneven pieces and other advanced methods.
Course Details
Equipment Provided: Each student will have access to a lathe, and basic turning chisels and chucks are available for use during the class. However, bringing your own tools is encouraged to enhance your learning experience.
Materials Included: Turning blanks are supplied and included in the tuition price, so you can focus entirely on honing your skills.
Simon, your instructor, discovered his passion for woodturning in high school, and after creating just one bowl, he was hooked. Now a full-time woodturner, Simon's work is showcased in galleries across Australia and around the world. His expertise and passion for teaching make him the perfect guide for students of all levels.
Who Should Attend
This course is suitable for beginners with little to no experience in woodturning, as well as intermediate students eager to expand their skills. Participants aged 14 and above are welcome, and if a minor is attending, a parent or guardian must remain on the premises for the duration of the class.
Knowledge required
Suitable for beginners with no experience up to intermediate students. Children 14+ are welcome to participate in this course.

What to bring
PPE will be supplied however students wishing to bring their own should come with a face mask, safety glasses or goggles and earmuffs or earplugs.
Closed shoes are a mandatory requirement for all students.
Those with their own turning chisels should also bring them along to get better accustomed at using them but we also supply all tools if you don't have any.
We have a kitchen onsite with fridge and microwave for those that want to bring their own food, and there are also takeaway options within walking distance.
