Wheel Throwing
Want to see if wheel-throwing pottery is for you? Or do you want to take your pottery skills to the next level and explore new shapes, sizes, textures, and forms on the wheel?
Then look no further! Join One-off Pottery Studio (OoPs) and learn how to 'throw' clay on the pottery wheel in a small intimate studio.
We have a maximum of three people per class, so you will get highly personal attention.
In each class, your friendly teacher will take you step-by-step through the process so you can create your own special wheel-thrown vessel. Wheel-throwing is harder than it looks, so keep your expectations realistic, if you are a beginner. It does not matter. You will love what you throw, regardless. It's more about the process than the outcome.
Please note:
  • Clay, glazes, firing of up to three pots, and a glass of sparkling wine or another beverage are included in the price.
  • Please book at least 24 hours in advance.

Jacqui discovered pottery about eight years ago when corporate life was no longer fulfilling her. She signed up at the local community centre for pottery courses and was hooked. In fact, she became so passionate about it, that she completed numerous courses in hand-building, wheel-throwing, glazing and firing and spent three months doing pottery in a school in Denmark. She recently completed an intensive porcelain and glazing course at La Meridiana Pottery School in Italy.
Jacqui started OoPs (One-off Pottery Studio) in 2019 and has sold her work at several markets like the Rose Street Market, the Brighton Soul Night Market, Le Studio Ceramics market, Mooroduc Station Market and has exhibited at the Beaumaris Art group, the Dinner Plain Art Fair, the Gulgong Clay Festival and the Sol Gallery in Fitzroy. She took over the management of the ceramic studio at Le Studio Art Space in Mordialloc early in 2022, and ran several wheel-throwing and hand-building courses in collaboration with other wonderful ceramic teachers there and at her studio in Hampton. She also teaches at the Beaumaris Art Group.
She loves the unpredictable nature of pottery - each time you open the kiln, it's like a new exciting episode of a sitcom. The alchemy of earth, water, fire and chemicals leads to a myriad possibilities. Not-to-mention that pottery is mesmerising to watch and do. And fun. And messy.
