"Food, for me, is this magical language - this history, this culture" - Oksana
Roll up your sleeves - it’s time to get messy! Join Oksana from Ukraine for an authentic, immersive cooking experience, as she takes you on a journey through her recipes, traditions and stories as you cook a beautiful feast together. And when the cooking is done, all that is left to do is enjoy the wholesome feast.
"When I was small I watched many times as my mother and grandmother cooked food for big weddings. The work was hard but I was inspired. When I grew up, I decided to be a teacher and this made my mother happy. But still I dreamed of cooking for people. When the war started, many people moved to my hometown to be safe. I took the opportunity to live my dream of cooking for others. I volunteered to cook and my food spoke a special language. In Ukraine, we speak through our food. It is the way I cook today – here in Australia – the same way my grandmother taught my mother."
Oksana’s menu is a language of its own, with flavours that speak to her country’s culture and history in every bite. There’s her mouthwatering Varenyky, perfect cheese and potato filled dumplings tossed in butter and fried onion to make them even more delicious. While every family has their own Borsch recipe, trust us when we say Oksana’s is a real showstopper, served with plenty of fresh dill and a dollop (or three) of sour cream. And just when you thought her menu couldn’t get any better, there’s her homemade apple pie - need we say more!
