Phibs

4.5 (4)

Phibs is a Sydney based freelance artist working with a large range of artistic disciplines with a primary focus on aerosol artin public space.

Coming from a traditional graffiti back ground Phibs was active in community programs, inspiring the artistic potential of this now popular art form. Moving to Melbourne in 2001 saw Phibs exposed to an evolving street art scene and joined the Everfresh Studio Collective. In Melbourne Phibs established a name within the fine arts world and rapidly became one of the cities most respected and renowned artists, on and off the streets.

Having extensive experience in painting large scale murals nationally and internationally. Recent local commissions include:May Gibbs mural at Neutral Bay Post Office( North Sydney Council), Leichhardt Light Rail Station (NSW Transport) and the Ozanam building at Stanmore.

As a professional artist I feel that public art enhances and activates public spaces. It creates a culturally vibrant atmosphere that all of the community can enjoy and identify with. Life in the inner city environment is dominated by advertising and signage and I feel its important to reflect art for arts sake. Furthermore, high quality aerosol art discourages graffiti and supports the growing movement of creative urban art works of aesthetic nature.
