The heat transfer method in soap making is a simple and efficient way to make cold-process soap without the need to preheat the oils on the stovetop or in a microwave. Instead, the heat naturally generated by the lye solution is used to melt the solid oils, simplifying the process and saving time. This method is especially popular for small-batch soap makers who want to streamline their workflow.

How It Works
Prepare the Lye Solution:
Mix lye (sodium hydroxide) with distilled water as usual. This chemical reaction generates heat, causing the solution to reach high temperatures (often around 80–90°C or 176–194°F).
Add Solid Oils to the Lye Solution:
Place your solid oils (e.g., coconut oil, palm oil, shea butter) in your soap-making pot or mixing bowl. Carefully pour the hot lye solution over the solid oils. The heat from the lye solution will begin melting the oils.
Stir Until Fully Melted:
Use a spatula or stick blender to stir the mixture until the solid oils are completely melted and the liquid oils are well incorporated.
Add Liquid Oils:
Once the solid oils are melted, add your liquid oils (e.g., olive oil, castor oil) to the mixture. This step helps cool down the batter to a manageable temperature for soap making.
Blend to Trace:
Use a stick blender to mix the batter until it reaches trace (a light pudding consistency). Then, add any desired additives like essential oils, colorants, or exfoliants.
Pour and Mold:
Pour the soap batter into your mold and let it set.
