Learn to capture the world through the lens with Scroll Stop in Sydney! Move from mobile to mirrorless, digi to DSLR or simply upgrade your skills with your existing gear.
Join a cohort of exuberant artists, learn the basics and start your journey as a photographer.
Our six-lesson course allows you to explore the world of photography in immense detail, learning the utmost basics like the anatomy of a camera, all the way through to expressing yourself with light painting and model shoots.
Course overview:
Module 1: Basics [Saturday 9.30am]
Learn about the anatomy of the camera, how to use it and how to keep it safe. Put your newfound knowledge into practice in your first practical competition.
Module 2: The Rules (and when to break them) [Saturday 12pm]
Everyone has an opinion on the “proper way” to shoot. We’ll take you through what that generally means, and when you can tell them to shove it. Work to form your own portfolio of images portraying different emotions.
Module 3: Stepping It Up [Saturday 2pm]
Play with Gobos and Light Painting, investigate depth and the world of smoke machines, learn how to sell products with your imagery and exercise your vision to bring complicated images to life.
Module 4: Post-Production [Saturday 4.30pm]
Learn the basics of photography file formats, curves and exposure controls. Align your vision with colour grading and detail adjustments and hide the evidence with masking, error corrections and cropping.
Module 5: Model Shoots [Sunday 10am]
Put your skills into practice in a modelling shoot, both as the photographer and their assistant. Shoot to meet a brief, then edit your mastery to present a polished product. Talk through your work with the cohort and work to improve through iteration.
Module 6: The Streets Are Calling [Sunday 5pm]
Come along for a photography walk in the CBD. Take on a list of challenges as we progress through the city and wrap up with some drinks and dinner with the cohort. Show off your work in a later Zoom call and share who you thought took the winning images.
Classes are run every second weekend.
By the end of this course, you will take home newfound photography skills and your portfolio to show off all your work!
