Known for his loose lines and expressive characters, Blake’s work brings stories to life with a joyful, spontaneous style. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or a complete novice, this class will guide you through the fundamentals of drawing in a way that’s fun, relaxed, and playful.
What You’ll Learn:
Techniques for creating fluid, expressive lines
How to sketch characters with unique personality and movement
Tips for adding exaggerated facial expressions and poses
A minimalist approach to color, inspired by Blake’s selective use of watercolor
We’ll start with a few warm-up exercises to get those creative juices flowing, followed by step-by-step guidance to draw your own character-driven illustrations. You’ll learn to use simple shapes, loose lines, and a few splashes of color to create lively, dynamic artwork that captures the heart of Quentin Blake’s beloved style.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll have your very own playful illustrations and the confidence to continue exploring this expressive way of drawing. Perfect for anyone who wants to experience the joy of drawing without the pressure of perfection!
A reminder that this class is inspired by Blake's work and we will not be replicating his illustrations but using them to inspire our own characters.

About me!
I commenced my dance journey at the tender age of 5, eventually earning a scholarship to The Royal Ballet London) and transitioning to full-time training by age 11. Alongside my rigorous training, I performed with The Royal Ballet Company and various European dance companies, also delving into choreography and pioneering roles in new productions.
In the early 2000s, I embarked on curating and facilitating creative workshops for community organizations, striving to democratize the arts and extend its reach to underprivileged communities. This endeavor involved collaboration with company directors, educators, and health professionals to craft inclusive and educational arts programs.
Augmenting my dance background, I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Creative Writing, nurturing her passion for literature, writing, and poetry. Concurrently, she assumed the role of Assistant Manager at a West End Theatre, overseeing daily operations and Front of House management. My involvement in community radio sparked an interest in sound engineering, leading her to earn a diploma and subsequently work in the live music industry.
Upon relocating to Melbourne in 2009, I leveraged my extensive experience and network in the arts to establish Rebel Stepz. This multicultural arts organization comprises diverse talents spanning theater technicians, set and costume designers, dancers, choreographers, musicians, writers, and artists. Together with Rebel Stepz, I curate events, workshops, programs, and production packages, catering to various projects all over the world.
I persist in my multifaceted roles as a choreographer, facilitator, event manager, producer and mentor. Continuously evolving, I am presently immersed in the study of sports psychology, aiming to apply my insights to support artists and performers in their endeavors.
