Join us for a hands on journey into the art of pine needle basket weaving.
In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to transform locally harvested pine needles into a beautiful coiled basket.
Canberra and its surroundings are home to several species of pine, many of which are perfect for basketry. We’ll explore the different types, how to sustainably harvest them, properly store and prepare your materials for weaving.
Guided step by step, you’ll start by creating a coiled base and mastering a simple spiral stitch to shape the walls of your basket. By the end of the class, you’ll have a finished or near-complete basket and the knowledge to continue crafting at home.
All materials provided—just bring your creativity!
Plus, you’ll receive an electronic guidebook to support your weaving journey beyond the workshop.

My name is Leah. I’m the owner and creator behind This Lush Corner an online fibre store and now a learning space to help you dive into a new craft.
I’m an accredited teacher through the Australian Crochet Guild and bring my lifelong experience in crochet and fibre crafts. I am a lover of not only crochet, but knitting, machine knitting, basket weaving and Pine needle basketry crafts.
I choose slow fashion, mending and repurposing rather than disposal, it’s about quality over quantity. There's something special about the process of creating or repairing something by hand—it's a mindful activity that allows us to slow down and appreciate the craftsmanship involved.
It's a way to preserve traditional crafts and pass on knowledge from one generation to the next.
If you are ready to try your hand at a new skill, then let’s jump in and discover the joy of making together!
