Create your own coiled basket using locally harvested pine needles in this beginner-friendly class!
There are several types of pines found throughout Canberra and surrounds suitable for basketry. We’ll discuss the different types, understand how to sustainably harvest, properly store, and prepare pine needles.
Then we’ll begin by creating a starting coil and using a simple spiral stitch that will work the basket and shape.
By the end of the day, you will have the skills and knowledge to create a basket from start to finish. You’ll also receive an electronic guide book as a reference to give you the inspiration and confidence to recreate your own again at home!

My name is Leah. I’m the owner and creator behind This Lush Corner an online fibre store and now a learning space to help you dive into a new craft.
I’m an accredited teacher through the Australian Crochet Guild and bring my lifelong experience in crochet and fibre crafts. I am a lover of not only crochet, but knitting, machine knitting, basket weaving and Pine needle basketry crafts.
I choose slow fashion, mending and repurposing rather than disposal, it’s about quality over quantity. There's something special about the process of creating or repairing something by hand—it's a mindful activity that allows us to slow down and appreciate the craftsmanship involved.
It's a way to preserve traditional crafts and pass on knowledge from one generation to the next.
If you are ready to try your hand at a new skill, then let’s jump in and discover the joy of making together!
