What you'll do
Niharika is known for her exquisite illustrative designs painted onto ceramics. From flowers and fish, to birds and botanicals - her work gives a new reality to hand-built and decorated ceramics. Niharika will guide you through her unique process to beautifully paint a ramen-style ceramic bowl. She will facilitate your ideation and encourage you to work with your own ideas and drawings. Inspiration can come from nature or can be graphic and/or geometric. You'll work on a pre-made bowl, so this session does not include any making of ceramics.In this class, you will:
- Learn how to create a connection between the shape of a vessel and decoration
- Discuss, plan and sketch your artwork design for your bowl
- Work graphically in a single colour or observationally in multiple colours
- Discuss brushwork and tools
- Prepare surfaces and draw in pencil onto the surface
- Create a colour palette
- Paint with underglazes on a bisque fired bowl
