Oil Painting Class for Beginners Experience Melbourne

Discover the joy of oil painting in Collingwood!

6 hours Class size 12 to 40 guests     $180

Have you wanted to learn to use oil paint but have been too afraid to try? Forget the mental image of a hazy studio full of turpentine and ugly smocks (unless you wanna rock the smock).
This full-day workshop will teach you the basics of oil painting without any harmful fumes or chemicals. All materials will be provided including paint, brushes, tools and surfaces, and you will leave with a finished piece!
In this class taught by Lucy Maddox, a figurative painter with ten years’ teaching experience and works in many local and national art prizes, you will learn the foundational skills of oil painting in a relaxed and encouraging environment. The workshop is suitable for both absolute beginners and those with a little painting or drawing experience in any medium.
Over six hours, we will:
  • Discuss how to capture a lifelike image in paint
  • Experiment with basic oil techniques, such as blending and rubbing back
  • Learn how to work safely with oil paints
  • Practise techniques by painting from direct observation
An aesthetically pleasing array of objects will be set up for you to use as inspiration or you are welcome to bring in a reference photograph or your own inspirational objects to use if you have something specific in mind you’d like to paint in oils.
Please note: This class requires at least 5 students to run. In the unlikely event that we don't get this number of students, we'll cancel the class and fully refund you and inform you via email, so please watch your email a few days prior to the class
