Mosaic Course for Beginners

Two day introduction to mosaics in the heart of Kyneton

2 x 5 hours Class size 1 to 10 guests

$240 - $245 (Afterpay available)
($245 per guest when you book for 1 guest, $240/guest for 2+ guests)

Come along to our custom-built studio, in our historic precinct and try your hand at making a mosaic wall plaque to take home!
You will be shown how to transfer your chosen design from paper to your substrate, then we will choose your colours, paying attention to the textures, opacity and how to manage negative and positive spaces in your design. You will be shown how to achieve different effects using different shapes, sizes, textures and materials to create depth and interest in their works. There will be some mosaic glass tiles and broken porcelain to help create accents in your design as well.
You will be guided through how to shape your glass using mosaic nippers and then refining it with our glass grinders. Once you have your design and colour scheme sorted you will be ready to start attaching it to your substrate. Using the direct method we will start creating your mosaic, once you have your main features down we will work with you to fill in the gaps and make sure your positive and negative space is well balanced. You should finish glueing down your mosaic by the end of Saturday.
On Sunday once your glue has set overnight we will show you how to grout and then clean your mosaic ready to take home! The grout takes 1-2 weeks to fully cure, then it can be displayed outside on a wall with pride!
Lunch will be provided on the first day using all local organic produce and cater for any dietary requirements you may have. Tea and coffee facilities are available throughout the course.
The class will run on a Saturday and Sunday to allow for drying time between processes. We anticipate that you will be completed in time to check out one of our great local cafes for a late lunch on Sunday.
Session 1: 10:30am- 3:30pm Saturday (includes break for lunch with catering provided)
Session 2: 10:30am - 12.30pm or until your project is finished on Sunday (some participants may finish their projects earlier)

The Old Auction House is an independently run multi-use arts precinct located in the regional Victorian town of Kyneton, just an hour north of Melbourne. Housed in a historic weatherboard building, which served as the much loved Ferris auction rooms for over 80 years, the precinct opened in April 2017 and is home to a variety of artistic spaces.
The Old Auction House is currently home to a retail shop specialising in quality Australian handmade items, four working artist studios including local glass artists Leadlight By Ettore, a teaching space for visiting artists, and two gallery spaces with rotating exhibitions.
The Old Auction House is open 7 days and the entire space has been renovated to be accessible for those with prams, wheelchairs, and mobility issues.
