Join hat making expert Catherine from Embellish Atelier and discover how to make silk flowers using traditional millinery tools and techniques.
During the morning portion of this creative class, you will learn how to create a French tooled silk flower before sitting down to enjoy a quick lunch.
After lunch, you will continue to put your new skills into practice and create a bunch of beautiful silk flowers as you gain a deeper understanding of fabric qualities and properties used in millinery.
We will be using a variety of silk, organdie, organza, polyesters, petershams and leathers in this wonderful workshop inspired by millinery from the 1940s and 1950s.

Catherine Kelly and her team welcome new and existing clients to design and craft the perfect hat, fascinator, or headpiece to suit their personality, occasion and attire in a magnificently restored historic building with soaring pressed metal ceilings, rustic walls, and elegant chandeliers Embellish® Atelier at The York Building 128 Victoria Road, Rozelle, Sydney, Australia.
The French-inspired studio is an intimate space where her creations evolve over appointments with the client. Catherine’s style and colour inspiration comes from her travels, her fascination for architecture and interior design, her studies in, and as a teacher of textiles, design, and millinery. “Millinery is the perfect outlet for my passion for fabric, colour and texture” says Catherine who puts to use her skills acquired over 30 years. Her National and International award winning designs are regularly featured in the press, her teaching skills are valued in schools, colleges, and industry, and she has appeared regularly on television showcasing her work. A career highlight was working on the team at Opera Australia assisisting with making the Hats for the Ascot Scene of My Fair Lady. She is the creator of Hattember® which celebrates and supports the millinery industry in an annual Millinery and Wearable Art Competition and raises funds for the John Skipper Kelly Fund.
