Join Artist Clare Walton, her Junkyard Playground crew and the Reverse Garbage team on a creative voyage to the year 2050.
One of Australia’s leading proponents of measured risky play, Clare has developed a new project to explore our neighbourhood 25 years into the future!
How will our changing climate impact the future city?
Will our cities float across the ocean, be buried deep underground, or even relocated to space?
This event is a child-led participatory art project that explores the language of play and how children use it to communicate, build friendships and activate spaces on their terms.
Entering a parent/grown-up free zone (unless your child has special needs) children will be shown how to use hand saws, hammers and electric drills by our team of experts to bring their ideas to fruition.
Building bigger than themselves with reclaimed materials children 7-16 will collaborate to build the cities of the future.
We invite young creators and innovators to a day of skill sharing, peer to peer learning and the development of new skills in how to work together.
This project draws on the principles of measured risky play as children construct an ephemeral installation.
As artists and educators, we aim to promote the importance of the child’s voice in bringing community together and sharing their voice on what our future cities could look like.
This experience will promote the importance and ability of children to engage as creative active citizens in their community.
This program is funded by the Inner West City Council 2025 Artist Grant.
A photographer will be present at this event - do let us know if your child can’t be included in any photography.
All parents/designated grown-ups must sign children in and out on the day.
