Unleash your inner artist and make magic on the page with just a graphite pencil at this six-part online drawing course.
You'll learn how to do realistic graphite portrait illustrations in this fun and relaxed class in the comfort of your own home! Over six sessions, you'll be guided through the basic step-by-step process of creating realistic drawings from scratch. With tips and tricks from your expert teacher, you'll be able to build up your confidence and master new skills in no time!
What you will learn at this beginner-friendly course:
  • How to see faces as lines, shapes and tones
  • Essential drawing methods and how to achieve perfect proportions
  • How to begin with a simple line drawing as the basis of your portrait using a very easy method
  • Applying detail to make your drawing come to life!
By the end of this course, you will have learnt the skills to do two styles of portraits, line drawing portraits and realistic pencil portraits. Spend some time falling in love with drawing again at this virtual illustration course!
Please note: These classes are conducted via an online learning platform. You will need an internet connection and a table to work at. The first class is a live streamed information session however, all classes after the first class, will be pre-recorded and available to work through at your own leisure via the Teachable platform. A new class will be released each week however, you can take as long as you like to work through the classes and there is no need to worry about missing a class. You will have access to the online platform for 12-months from the end of the course. Students can ask questions via the online forum or email me, and I can address these at two pre-scheduled live zoom sessions throughout the 6-weeks that will be recorded for everyone in case anyone can't make it.

What to bring
An internet connection and a computer or smartphone with Zoom installed (for the first lesson)
You will need to purchase supplies for your drawing kit:
  • 0.5mm mechanical pencil
  • HB 0.5mm pencil refills
  • 8B full graphite woodless pencil
  • A pencil sharpener
  • A kneadable (putty) eraser
  • Blending sticks with cleaning paddle
  • Light box, picture frame with clear glass that you can shine a light through, a window with sunlight or a lamp behind it, or an A4 LED tracing pad
  • An A4 sheet of tracing paper (baking paper works too)
  • Tissues
  • you will need to print a black and white, and a colour copy of the reference image I will supply you with in the Teachable platform
  • A blank sheet of A3 printing paper (JM Burrows brand is good for this)
  • A blank sheet of A4 printing paper (standard copy paper like Reflex is fine)
During the first class I will go through paper types and you will need to purchase one sheet of 200gsm smooth art paper for the following class (you can buy individual sheets of books of paper at art supplies stores or Officeworks). This is the sheet of paper you will be completing your portrait on.
