Looking to explore the beauty and intricacy of Kumiko woodworking? Our Kumiko course and woodworking kit is the perfect place to start. Featuring almost two hours of video tutorials, plus comprehensive written instructions, you can learn at your own pace and enjoy the zen experience of Kumiko.
Our basic Kumiko kit accompanies this tutorial and includes two handmade Kumiko jigs and precut Kumiko strips that will allow you to create the stunning Asa-no-ha Kumiko pattern from your kitchen table.
The jigs included in this kit have been carefully designed to ensure precision and accuracy in your Kumiko woodworking projects. They are handmade in Australia from high-quality recycled Messmate and Redgum with brass fittings that are durable and beautiful to use. With these jigs, you'll be able to create clean and consistent cuts in your Kumiko strips, allowing you to achieve the perfect fit and alignment in your Asa-no-ha pattern.
The Kumiko strips included in this kit are made from a sustainably sourced Tasmanian Huon Pine that is a striking timber with a lovely aroma. The frame strips have been pre-cut and notched, saving you time and effort in your Kumiko woodworking project. The pattern strips have been milled to the correct width and thickness, to allow you to simply size the pieces using the included jigs to suit the pattern.
Whether you're a seasoned Kumiko woodworking enthusiast or just starting out, this kit has the basics you need to create a stunning Asa-no-ha pattern. It's a great way to explore the beauty and intricacy of this traditional Japanese craft, and to create a piece of art that you can be proud of.
Your tutor Shane is an experienced woodworker and educator who excels at process and technique communication. His tutorial is clear and easy to understand, and not only explains the process thoroughly but also the tips and tricks so that you can expect great results.
Whilst the tutorial is almost two hours long, the process itself will take much longer - really as long as you like. Kumiko is designed as a relaxing experience, to calm the mind and work slowly and methodically. The next big thing in slow craft, with a technique that is thousands of years old.
Due to the nature of the sharp tools being used, this is not suitable for children.
