What you'll do
Get ready to embark on a sewing adventure designed just for kids in our exciting sewing class right here in Melbourne!In this fun and interactive workshop, kids will dive into the world of sewing and create amazing projects to take home. Whether they're new to sewing or have some experience, our friendly teachers will provide guidance every step of the way, ensuring a positive and empowering experience for all.Please note: Day 2 and Day 3 are designed to build on skills from Day 1, so please make sure your children are either experienced sewists or have taken part in the prerequisite previous days before enrolling in these second or third sessions. No basic machine-threading skills will be taught in these follow up classes.Week 1:Beginner session:Monday 23rd September, 9.30am - 3.30pm: Design Your Own Monster PlushieBeyond Basics session:Tuesday 24th September, 9.30am - 3.30pm: Upcycled Bucket Hat*must have taken part in previous day or have sewing experience*Week 2:Beginner session:Wednesday 2nd October, 9.30am - 3.30pm: Flower cushionBeyond Basics session:Thursday 3rd October, 9.30am - 3.30pm: Backpack*must have taken part in previous day or have sewing experience*More follow on at The School of Sewing and Upcycling available in following days if they are keen beans!Day 1 is perfect for kids with little-to-no sewing experience, they will learn all the sewing machine basics in the morning and then complete their very own project to take home in the afternoon!Note: Please enter the name, age, and skill level of your child in the notes field when booking these workshops.

Teaching sewing skills that will last a lifetime. Learn to sew and mend with knowledgable, patient teachers in a friendly, inclusive environment. All ages, genders and abilities welcome!The School of Sewing & Upcycling began in 2015. We set up in a small shop in Buckley Street, Footscray and began to share our love of sewing with you. In 2019, we shifted to our current home right on the border of Footscray and Yarraville – a big, bright and welcoming space where many people come to hone their sewing skills. In February 2023, Zoe took over the business from Gaye (who still teaches) and in May 2023 moved into new space in Whitehall Street, Footscray.At SOSU, we believe that sewing is a wonderful life skill and we want to share it with you. Learning how to alter and mend the things that you have as well as learning the skills to create your own gorgeous garments will help you to be more creative and sustainable. We offer a wide range of full and half-day workshops or ongoing courses that will build, refresh or consolidate your sewing skills. We have a great mix of beginner and skilled sewers of all ages learning at our school. We can also arrange private lessons for those that learn better one-on-one. It’s just you and your teacher so that you can really get into that special project.
