Come and learn to create beautiful Japanese ink art!
Sumi in Japanese means "ink" and e means "painting". Sumi-e uses various techniques of gradation, shading, bleeding, and blurring. Using different brush techniques, and different mixtures of water and ink, you can create gorgeous mountain scenery, forest vistas, and elegant bamboo stands!
Tomoko is a Japanese calligraphy artist based around Sydney and the Central Coast. She will be teaching the basics of sumi-e painting on traditional thin paper. Come and find out more!
This class is for adults, and children over 12 years old.

Knowledge required
No knowledge of Sumi-e (or any painting skill) is required.

Tomoko is a Japanese calligraphy artist, a miso maker and a language teacher based around Sydney and the Central Coast. Tomoko was born and grew up in Japan, and she have been living in Australia for about 6 years. Tomoko loves the beaches and natural landscapes here!
Tomoko loves sharing Japanese culture through Japanese calligraphy, miso making and Japanese language. She has conducted calligraphy workshops in schools and various venues in Sydney, the Central Coast and Melbourne, as well as giving demonstrations at karate dojos and at marketing events for private companies.
Tomoko also has a passion for traditional foods, running sushi and miso workshops. She is always keen to share her love of Japanese food!
