Come and spend a Saturday with us in this practical introduction to blacksmithing and go home with your very own hand-forged projects! This Sydney workshop is perfect for beginners.
Update 2024: From Sunday 25th of Feb this will run 12 - 6 PM for the rest of the year. Except Sun 9th of March which is 9 am - 3 pm
During this full-day workshop, you will experience shaping your own project with hammer and fire, as well as learn a bit about the blacksmith forge, anvil, and tools and techniques used in blacksmithing. You will make a bottle opener and then have the freedom to select your own project, like a fire poker, s-hook or refine your bottle opener game by making some more.
What's included in this workshop:
  • A blacksmithing overview including the tools, processes and a safety briefing.
  • All materials required (steel, hammers, tongs, anvil, gas forge, PPE).
  • Forging your own project with hammer and fire.
  • Access to steel, forge and anvil for other projects on the day as you wish
  • All instructions and support required on the day.
  • Lunch from a local cafe (poke bowl, salad or burger and drink).
How the workshop will run:
The day starts with a safety briefing and then we discuss what it takes to get into blacksmithing as a hobby. This includes the tools required, where to source materials, safe working practises and an overview of the project of the day. We then all make the same project to get everyone comfortable before you can branch out and make something else, for instance, a fire poker or another bottle opener.
Please note:
  • This is not a knife-making workshop but a more relaxed introduction to blacksmithing where you learn about the tools and processes while still get to make a project or two on the day.
  • The workshop will be held in the back yard of our location in Brookvale, Northern Beaches Sydney. This is an industrial setting outside, under roof with basic facilities.
  • Lunch break will be from 3-3.30 PM with the workshop running from 12 - 6 pm.
  • We will aim to let you do as much as possible of this yourself. If you get tired of the hammering and we have to assist, we may have to help you with some decisions on how to complete your project, in order to finish on time.
