By fostering creativity, we can collectively reduce textile waste and promote a more sustainable and circular fashion culture.
Over the five weeks, we will cover a variety of techniques to creatively reuse textile waste and second-hand clothing. Every participant will engage in hands-on activities suited to their interests and skill levels.
Over the workshop, you learn all or some of the following skills, depending on your projects:
  • Fundamental sewing and repair skills
  • Sewing and joining seams on various materials, both by hand or with the help of a sewing machine
  • How to embellish through embroidery, beading, appliqué
  • Various embroidery stitches
  • Creating sewable patches from waste materials
  • Creative ways of rethinking garments and textile waste
  • How to operate and thread a domestic sewing machine
Some Ideas of things you can do:
  • Turn fabric scraps into a patchwork for a scrunchie, a tote bag, a drawstring bag, or a bucket hat
  • Embellish an old garment through embroidery, beading, appliqué
  • Create fluffy keychains from scratch
  • Transform a garment into another wearable garment or usable item through basic sewing techniques
  • Creating a textile poster
You can bring your ideas, or we can brainstorm together using a variety of reference images. It's an opportunity to learn together and get inspired by each other's creativity.
Other important things:
  • We have an abundance of waste textiles, but feel free to BYO garment/textiles/random waste materials
  • Please BYO sewing machine if your project requires it, though one machine will be provided to share
In case of leftover textiles and offcuts, they will be sent to UPPAREL for recycling.
