Intermediate Japanese Ink Painting Workshop

Develop traditional Japanese ink painting techniques in Melbourne!

2.5 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests

$125 (Afterpay available)
Looking to develop your Japanese ink painting techniques? Join award winning artist Junko's advanced ink art class in Melbourne!
This workshop is for students who have attended a workshop or short course with Junko previously, as she will be building upon the foundational skills learned in beginners' classes.
Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting, where traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds.
There is much more to creating an image during the process of Japanese ink painting; it is also a meditative practice.
The relaxing experience of Sumi-e painting brings a sense of peace and harmony to the artist, and finished artworks are created to arouse the same sense of joy and tranquillity in the viewer.
Junko will bring many models for the student to choose from and each student will work on one or two subjects individually.
At the end of the class, return home with your own painting, as well newfound skills and confidence!

Junko Azukawa grew up in Toyama, Japan at the base of the central Japanese Alps, a region famous for the natural beauty of its landscape.

She started learning traditional Japanese calligraphy (Shodo) at the age of five and has experienced the vast possibilities that calligraphy and Japanese ink painting (Sumie) can express with just simple monotone brush strokes.
Since becoming a resident of Melbourne, Australia in 2005, Junko has brought her unique artistic talents and outlook to the Australian art scene. She started teaching Japanese calligraphy and painting with children and adults at numerous schools and organisations and also exhibited at a number of galleries in Australia and Japan.
One of her artwork is now in the National Gallery of Victoria’s collection. She is also sought after in commercial design work for her skilful brushwork from bottle label and package design to restaurant mural.
