Join the wonderful Bhavna (known to her 37K Insta followers at The Modern Desi) for an authentic lesson in all things Indian home cooking. This is your chance to learn from a true expert.
From Kerala-style prawn curry to a multi-purpose raita and an aromatic Malvani fish fry, you’ll learn to make several traditional Indian seafood dishes. Bhavna's skill is in teaching the fundamental building blocks of Indian curries which you can mix and match according to your mood and your seafood.
With a passion for sharing Indian cuisine with Australians, Bhavna Kalra Shivalkar spends her time crafting new fusion recipes, writing food columns for publications like SBS, launching pop-up restaurants and hosting cooking classes. Obviously, she's the perfect person to run this special edition hands-on Masterclass.
What You'll Learn:
  • All about rice (we didn't know India has an estimated 40, 000 varieties either),
  • That "Indian" cuisine is not really a thing - it's entirely regional
  • How to buy and store spices and how to use them in the right quantities, to gently build authentic flavour.
Menu:
TBC
The class will start with welcome drinks and an expert demonstration by Bhavna. You'll then make you way over to our fully equipped cooking island in our state-of-the-art kitchens, to prepare your own dishes. At the end of the class, you'll have time to enjoy your creations in our stunning dining room and a recipe booklet to take home.
Please be aware that you will be cooking at a shared workstation in a group of 4-6. If you have a group of 7 or 8, please contact us. To ensure a great experience for everyone, we do not accommodate larger private or corporate groups in our public classes. If you have a larger group or special request, feel free to call us, and we'll discuss the best options for you.
We make every effort to ensure that the class and the recipes proceed as advertised. However occasionally we may need to alter recipes, ingredients or class format due to availability of produce or other circumstances.
Recipes may contain allergens besides fish, crustaceans and molluscs. Please contact us for more information.
