In this workshop, you will learn the basics of hand mending old rags, and then use a sewing machine to create a pencil case from mended scraps.
From darning, sewing buttons and patching, to following a pattern and making a finished item – this class takes you through all the basic skills to fix up (and maybe start to make) your own clothes.
What will be covered in this mending workshop?
  • Darning and embroidery to fix tears and holes
  • Colour matching, visible mending
  • Sewing machine set up and safety
  • Pattern assembly
  • Pinning and stitching
  • Button attachment
By the end of this mending workshop, you should be able to:
  • Know several tools and stitches needed to darn and patch a hole in fabric by hand – based on what kind of damage the fabric has attained.
  • Assemble the components of a basic sewing pattern
  • Set up and use a sewing machine
  • Basic stitching for lining and assembly on a home sewing machine

This workshop is for anyone. No prior skills are required.
