Step into a world of creativity and craftsmanship with our glass pendant making class in Sydney. Led by experienced glass artists Simi or Mark, this workshop offers you the chance to create your own stunning glass pendant, hanging ornament or pair of earrings using glass blowing techniques. Perfect for beginners and enthusiasts alike, you’ll leave with unique handcrafted glass jewellery that make wonderful gifts or personal treasures.
In this glass blowing workshop, you’ll learn the foundational techniques of flameworking. Through two detailed demonstrations, you'll learn to craft a teardrop pendant and a heart, shell or leaf-shaped pendant or hanging ornament. With a wide range of materials at your fingertips, including colored and clear borosilicate glass, you can customise your creations to reflect your personal style.
This is a beginner-friendly class---an instructor will be on hand to provide personalised guidance and tips throughout the process, ensuring that you feel confident and inspired as you craft your creations.
This two-and-a-half-hour taster session will cover:
  • The basics of glass sculpting using an "oxygen-propane" torch
  • Techniques such as sculpting, joining, stretching and colour mixing to create a teardrop pendant and a leaf shell or heart-shaped pendant/hanging ornament
  • Using both clear and coloured "borosilicate" glass rods
  • Safety talk on using the glass lampwork torch
  • Choose from a selection of necklace cords, ribbons and basic fittings, all provided as part of the workshop
  • Half an hour of kiln time for your pieces to anneal

Knowledge required
  • Beginner-friendly class.
  • Suitable for ages 12+ only when accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • Minimum unaccompanied age 16.
What you'll get
  • All tools and materials provided.
  • Demonstrations and a safe introduction to glassblowing.
  • You will make at least two pendant-like objects to take home. These might include wearable pendants, hanging ornaments or even a pair of earrings.
What to bring
  • Please wear proper clothing---long sleeves and long pants from cotton or other low-flammable material. No shorts or tees!
  • Full covered shoes at all times and best to tie long hair back on the day.
  • You may like to bring water and a snack.
  • A container (such as a shoebox) to take your finished piece home after the class.

Simi has been surrounded by glass art since childhood, deeply influenced by her father, master glassblower Mark Eliott. She has spent the last several years developing her skills in glassblowing and flamework whilst co-teaching classes alongside Mark. Inspired by Australian native flora and her work in conservation, Simi has a passion for creating intricate glass jewelry that reflects the beauty and fragility of the natural world.

Mark Eliott is a contemporary artist working primarily in flame-worked glass and also incorporating a variety of media such as music, stop-motion animation and wood carving.
Mark completed a Master of visual arts and Master of Studio Arts at Sydney College of the Arts, as well as an Associate Diploma in Jazz Studies (Saxophone) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Collaborations with other artists are also a feature of Mark's work, for example the stop-motion animation project with Jack McGrath for which they coined the term Flame-ation (flame-glass animation). This work aims to bring glass to life by presenting the object together with animation, and sometimes, live performance.
Mark teaches flame-work and provides interactive demonstrations. He has exhibited internationally and has a strong interest in environmental issues.
