Full day learning the intricacies of basic Gem Bezel Setting in Jewellery

6 hours Class size 1 to 4 guests

  $500 (Afterpay available)

In this 4-person-only (1 person per Jewellers Desk) basic gem bezel setting workshop, you will learn the art of creating simple oval and round gem-set bezel jewellery pieces in Sterling Silver with Helene Campbell.
You will learn the basics from how to choose your stone shapes and material, the differences of both premade and handmade bezels and how to use them in your jewellery, the basic equipment you need, and most importantly how to prepare your tools and then the process of securely setting gemstones into sterling silver bezels, producing one-of-a-kind wearable examples to take home. We will start with selecting your stones from Helene's collection of oval and round gems, then go onto making and decorating the bezel, including flame-formed decorative balls of silver, or embossing or creating shot plate embellishments. From there you will choose to make either a handmade bezel set and decorated pendant and bail or a bezel set and decorated ring.
If you're feeling a bit apprehensive as a beginner to bezel setting, don't worry – this workshop is designed to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your creativity, ask questions and try firsthand with support. Helene will guide you through each step of the process, ensuring you feel confident and empowered throughout the class.
Working with sterling silver and semi-precious gemstones, you will be surprised at how quickly your confidence and skills develop, resulting in beautiful pieces created by you. This is a hands-on activity, experience the process of actually creating your pieces then bezel setting to create something truly special with your own two hands.

My passion is handcrafted jewellery, not the mass produced items being produced by casting in factories. Traditional slow hand crafted, starting from granule, alloying to carat, making sheet and wire, then hand crafting the pieces, incorporating both traditional and contemporary techniques.
I enjoy handmaking jewellery so much that I find I want to share this passion with more people.
Why handcrafted? I get asked this a lot. It goes back to basics, we love to adorn ourselves, it's our visible creativity. Only jewellery stands the test of time and is passed down from Parent to Child, from one generation to the next. Our adornment that is also our link to our past heritage and our future. When this link is handmade, then I as the craftsman am also privileged to share in this journey. I love sharing this with those who are curious about handmade jewellery and what better way to do this than create your own pieces that perhaps will be passed onto the next generation.
