Explore the art of furoshiki, the Japanese tradition of wrapping with cloth! Led by local artist Yoshiko Ito, this workshop introduces you to the beauty and functionality of furoshiki, a traditional wrapping cloth that reflects Japan's commitment to sustainability and respect for nature.
You’ll learn both traditional and modern furoshiki techniques for wrapping a variety of shapes and sizes, from holiday gifts to everyday items. Furoshiki offers an elegant, reusable alternative to single-use wrapping materials, making it ideal for environmentally conscious gift-giving and daily use.
As part of this hands-on workshop, you’ll receive guidance on selecting reclaimed fabrics from the Reverse Garbage Reuse Centre, included in the course price. You’ll also have the chance to customize and hem your own cloth, creating a truly unique and versatile piece to take home. Plus, you'll discover easy upcycling techniques to design your own furoshiki from materials you may already have.
Join us for a creative and sustainable experience that celebrates Japanese culture, creativity, and the 4Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Respect.
