Ready to venture into the world of filmmaking? Our 6-lesson curriculum will leave you ready to jump onto any set - big or small.
Our 6-lesson curriculum allows you to explore the world of filmmaking in detail, starting with the utmost basics like the anatomy of a cinema camera, all the way through to working on a professionally operating set.
Our Modules are as follows:
Module 1: Basics [Saturday 9.30am]
Learn about the anatomy of the camera, how to use it and how to keep it safe. And learn the best practices for transferring your cinematic masterpieces from camera to computer to the world.
Module 2: Cinematography 101 [Saturday 12pm]
Find out what cinematography truly means in this deep-dive into the craft behind the camera. Learn fundamentals of framing and lighting, and explore different methods to move the camera. Play with all the best toys, including gimbals and snorricams and bring your first music video to life!
Module 3: Form Your Crew [Saturday 2pm]
The best films are made by the best teams. Learn about the different roles and responsibilities on set and upskill in sound, direction, continuity and more. Shoot an Interview in a documentary setting and work to pull the perfect line from your talent. Experiment with specialty shooting techniques and learn when they’re used. And face the gauntlet of the dreaded “dolly zoom”.
Module 4: Post-Production [Saturday 4.30pm]
A film is just an assortment of clips until it’s brought into the editing room. Learn the fundamentals of post-production in either Adobe Premiere Pro or Davinci Resolve. Walk through the basics of colour grading and coverage, and understand what it means to shoot for the edit. Put together your first scene and compare your results to those of your classmates… and your teacher.
Module 5: Scene 1 Take 1 [Sunday 10am]
Time to see if you’ve been listening. Experience a real short-film shoot, work with actors to produce a strong result and learn where things can go wrong. Rotate through crew roles to gain a stronger understanding of what each person on set needs to succeed.
Module 6: Capture The Street [Sunday 5pm]
Take on the streets in this challenge-oriented practical lesson. Bring your gear and your creativity as we venture through the CBD to capture the evening. Compete with your cohort to produce the best scene, edit it in the week following, then join us for a review session and social night to wrap up the course.
