Your tutor, Ro Bruhn, is a practising artist and runs many workshops including textiles, gelliplate printing, jewellery, collage, and painting fabric around Australia. She currently exhibits her mixed media work at Up Gallery, most recently the Fragmented Fabrics group exhibition in May 2024.
In this workshop, I will show you how to create interesting pieces of art using magazine images, paint, and paint markers. You will be provided with magazines and my painted papers to gather your collection of images that resonate with you. They can include patterns, words, photos, anything that appeals to your imagination.
These images will then be glued randomly to white medium-weight paper. Once the glue has dried, the fun part begins.
Acrylic paint markers and acrylic paint will then transform the images into whimsical pieces of art covering much of the original work, finishing by adding more marks and shapes using coloured or black or white pens, and outlining some of the new images.
It becomes very addictive and is a fun way to relax and get your mojo working again. The finished artwork can be framed, cut up to make smaller images, or you can create more papers and bind them into a book.
