Come make your own ceramics upstairs at Plantonica with Tonic Ceramics' beginner-friendly wheel throwing workshop in Melbourne.
During this two hour workshop, you will learn the process of wheel throwing, from clay preparation to firing. You will be guided through the process of using the pottery wheel by a friendly self taught ceramicist.
The session will start with a safety briefing about the process of preparing clay, and a quick demonstration of throwing a pot on the wheel. You will then get to jump on the wheel yourself, sink your hands into clay and create unique ceramic pieces you'll love!
You will choose two items (one each) to keep. They will be fired and ready for collection approximately one month after the session. Please be understanding that at certain times throughout the year this may take longer. Extra pieces can be purchased on the day at $25 per piece.
Due to the slow nature of the pottery process, your pieces will be trimmed and glazed by us after the session.
Whether you're on the hunt for something to do with your besties, your mum/dad or a romantic date night, bring your loved ones along for a relaxing couple of hours with clay!
Please note that both tickets need to be booked for the class to run. The price is per person, not couple.
The studio does not refund fees for change of mind or for missed classes.
We will send you an email once your work is complete and ready for pick up. We will hold your works for 2 months after this email has been sent. We are unable to keep your work after this period due to space constraints and will repurpose them. We are able to post them to you at your request and cost.

A couple of years ago while out on a walk, we realised we shared a desire to try ceramics as a way to distract ourselves from our professional careers - even if just for a couple of hours. Straight away we were hooked!
We became addicted with pottery as an after-hours passion, quickly buying our own wheels and set up a home studio. While experimenting with various forms, our focus was on making planters for all our plants.
Very soon, we had the idea of creating a green space to combine our love of gardening with our new found love of pottery. Late last year, we found our little urban garden nursery space and now sell local ceramicists work, along with our own.
We have a working studio above the garden nursery and have many friends requesting lessons. Pottery is a way to forget the daily pressures and meditate with clay for a couple of hours.
The studio is a calm and cosy space, welcoming anyone who has a desire to try ceramics.
