In this class, you will be guided through the step by step process of mastering calligraphy by your expert teacher Sharon. You'll start with a brief history of the art form before learning about the various styles too.
Sharon will teach you how to write letters and numerals using a brush pen, how to master letter formation and shaping and give you an understanding of layout and design too!
What this course will cover:
  • How to write with a pointed pen
  • The script, its style, letter construction and characteristics
  • Letterform, spacing and joining of letters
  • Capitals and their origins and combine them with the lowercase letters
  • Flourishing
  • Numerals
  • Colour, layout and design skills

What to bring
Please make sure to wear something you don't mind getting dirty, enclosed shoes and tie up long hair.
Materials to bring if you do not purchase the kit:
  • A4 or A3 layout pad (Canson)
  • Copperplate or pointed pen nib (Zebra G nib recommended)
  • A pen holder (either straight pen holder or an oblique holder specifically for Copperplate)
  • Ink (Black Sumi ink or Chinese stick ink)
  • Coloured inks, gouache, coloured pencils
  • A ruler, pencil HB
  • water jar, rag
