Japanese 'Hanga' refers to woodblock printing, a traditional printmaking technique that originated in Japan. Hanga is characterized by its intricate and detailed prints created by carving designs into wooden blocks, applying ink or pigment to these blocks, and then transferring the image onto paper or fabric.
In this workshop, we recreate the Japanese woodblock printing process, but with a modern twist. Instead of carving wooden blocks, we use rubber materials to create stamps, making the process easier and more accessible to all participants.
For this session, we will be carving traditional Japanese Sakura symbol.
