Become a jewellery designer for an afternoon and create your very own custom ring.
In this workshop, we will spend our time learning the ancient jewellery making technique called lost wax carving. We'll carve our ring designs into wax using a variety of tools and techniques. Carving into wax opens a lot of creative options to jewellery making, allowing for any 3D form to take shape.
No experience is required and it's very much a learn-as-you-go process but your teacher, Kat is always close by with guidance along the way.
We'll begin with an explanation of the process, a demo of how the tools can be used and then we jump into the creative zone and get carving.
Unfortunately, you won't go home with a finished ring after the workshop but instead, your wax ring carving will be cast in silver, sanded and polished to your chosen finish, ready to be worn and shown off to all who pass by. You'll be contacted when it's ready and on its way to you after three weeks.
This workshop is held at Mountain Goat Brewery in Richmond. It's a great place to grab lunch before the workshop or to make an evening of it with friends afterwards. Food and drinks are not included in your ticket price but you are welcome to have drinks at the table whilst we work away.
Please note:
  • Your ticket price includes all of the tools required to create your ring, enough wax to create one ring and covers the cost of casting in silver and finishing. If you find on the day that you want to make a second piece, extra ring blanks can be purchased on the day. Shipping of the piece is included in your ticket price also, a delivery address will be collected on the day.
  • We require a minimum of 8 people for a class to go ahead. In the event we don't reach this requirement, the class will be cancelled, and ticket holders will be given the option to rebook to another date or have a refund processed.

I’m Kat aka the nightsmith.
I spent my early 20’s completing a Bachelor in Fine Arts majoring in Silversmithing but since graduating 8 years ago life has taken me away from my jewellery practice.
These workshops were born as a way for me to bring creating jewellery back into focus and having spent most of my art school days in a shared studio, I’ve found creating work together is far more enjoyable than going it alone.
The focus of my workshops is using the technique of lost wax casting, a process centuries old and used by most professional jewellers today. It’s an easy way to approach the jewellery world, can be completed with minimal equipment in any location and the possibilities of creation are vast and therefore completely unique to you.
My workshops are designed to be very accessible with no prior experience needed, classes are kept small so you get plenty of 1 on 1 time to hash out the design idea and can move forward confidently through each stage of the process.
I’m so excited to introduce you to the wonderful world of ring making via lost wax casting and see what glorious rings we can make together!
