Join Shlomit in her creative workshop in Wesburn to explore the art of wood carving! In this class, you’ll learn the essentials of whittling using just a knife to create intricate wooden figurines. No prior experience is necessary as you’ll be guided every step of the way.This class will cover:
- Gain insights into wood types and grain patterns and learn how to work with them effectively.
- Familiarise yourself with the tools and different cutting techniques involved in wood carving.
- Learn the basics of designing and planning your carving projects.
- Master the skill of sharpening your tools to ensure precision in your work.
- Bring your creative vision to life as you craft small figurines from start to finish - from designing to sanding, oiling, and painting if desired.

Knowledge required
No previous experience is needed for this class. You will be guided every step of the way. The class is suitable for individuals over 16 years old.
What you'll get
- Wood, tools, and safety gloves, as well as tea, coffee and refreshments.
- You will take your creations home!
What to bring
- Please wear closed-toed shoes and bring your lunch if you wish.
- Remember reading glasses if you have them, and if you have your own tools, bring them along and learn how to sharpen them.

Hi, I'm Shlomit and I'm a professional wood carver and chainsaw carver from the Yarra Valley and being doing it since 2015. I usually work on large projects for schools and councils using chainsaws and power tools, but I LOVE the peace of mind that whittling gives me, the quiet, dustless joy of seeing a piece of timber turns into an animal or a character in my hands and I love to share my knowledge and see the satisfied smiles of people who just created their own carving. I see whittling as the gateway of wood carving combined with being present in an active meditation.
