Looking for fun, relaxing things to do in Melbourne? Learn acrylic painting with Setareh Hosseini of Live For Art in a series of 6 workshops to help you express your creativity and develop your acrylic painting skills. This course will be structured to help you understand the tools of painting and explore techniques before launching into painting your creations.
In these 6 x 3 hour classes, you will learn about different painting tools and brushes and how to use them, and you will do exercises based on the effects created by different brushes and tools and finally you paint a painting in the style of a well known artist. The next artist is Joseph Stella. The techniques will be demonstrated and you get to practice them before using them in create your final painting.
We will explore a variety of acrylic techniques and styles as you gain confidence, use your imagination, and express your own style.
Learn acrylic painting in a fun, relaxed, small class. No previous experience is required, and all equipment and materials are supplied.
For the next course - over the 6 sessions, you will explore the techniques of Joseph Stella and paint his painting called 'Dance of Spring'. This painting has many elements and we will use the full 6 weeks to paint it.
Josef Stella was an Italian born futurist painter best known for his depictions of industrial America, especially his images of the Brooklyn Bridge. He is also associated with the American precisionist movement of the 1910s-1940s.
The painting you will paint will be on a larger canvas 40x60cm or similar.
Acrylics are a fabulous medium as they are easy to work with, colours are vibrant, and they dry quickly. In this 6-week course, you will learn a range of drawing and painting techniques and be guided to paint a picture or in the style of the inspiring artist who is the focus. You will produce an artwork you can proudly display in your home or living space.
In this course you will:
Learn the essential tools for artists and how to work with them:
  • Understand how to care for your paint brushes
  • Learn and practice various painting techniques including blending, various brush strokes, how to layer paint and more
  • Learn which brushes to use for different techniques
  • Practice on acrylic papers or panels
  • Create 2 large paintings on a 40 x 50 cm canvas
Live For Art classes provide a supportive and friendly environment for you to build confidence and develop your art practice with guidance and feedback from your tutor.
So, at the end, you can take home your beautiful painting, as well as some new art skills!
Please note:
  • You will use non-toxic acrylic paint.
  • The maximum class size is 8 students (it will only take place if there is a minimum of 3).
  • Do not attend the class if you have or are a close primary contact of anyone with COVID-19, or if you are experiencing fever, chills, or sweating, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, a runny nose, or have a loss of taste or smell.


Knowledge required
This is a beginner-friendly class, and no previous experience is required. It will also help artists with some experience develop their skills further.
 
What you'll get
  • Guidance from a trained expert
  • All consumable materials provided, including art canvas, cardboard or canvas panel, acrylic paint. Plastic aprons and gloves are available if required.
  • You will be provided with acrylic paint, four acrylic papers (cardboard's or canvas panels) and one 40 x 60 canvas or similar. These are included in the cost.
  • You will take home your own masterpieces.
What to bring
Because this class is a technique class, each participant must prepare and bring tools / paint brushes and pallet knife to be able to work with them professionally.
The list of tools will be provided upon registration and need to be purchased before the first session (or you may already have them). The cost of the tools will range from approximately $35 to $150, depending on your choice of brand.

This class series runs over 6 consecutive sessions, at the same time every week.

Setareh Hosseini is now leading acrylic painting and other art forms at the Live For Art Studio. We are offering acrylic painting courses that paint a different style each week and plan to offer abstract classes and more.
Setareh is a visual artist who has exhibited internationally. As a child she was touched by her mothers art classes in a family where music and painting formed the atmosphere in the home. She has extensive experience teaching adults and children to be creative through a range of art forms and loves helping people be creative. Setareh completed a Masters of Illustration in 2005 at the Faculty of Art and Architecture, Tehran, Iran. She also has a BA in graphic design and an MA in illustration.
CHILDREN'S classes are held in the school holiday's and at other time, offering a range of art and craft activities, including paper mache sculture, book making, acrylic painting, fluid art, collage and more.
All tutors have a Working with Children's Check and experience working with children. You can be at ease knowing your child/ren are in caring, professional and qualified hands.
FOR ALL CLASSES … you need NO painting experience. Classes are suitable for the novice as well as hobbyists and artists looking to develop skills in specific new techniques. Everyone is welcome and included. Bring your friends or come along and make new ones.
