Women have been sitting in circles and crafting with their hands for time immemorial. Our bodies yearn for this ancient practice, as we have become so disconnected from community and from ourselves in this modern world.
When we make something with our own hands, it serves as a reminder of where we were in that time, what was going on in our lives and what was on our minds. Just like music takes us back to a specific place and time; art and craft can as well.
In this workshop in The Blue Mountains, you will be making a uterus wall hanging which is symbolic of your creation story. We all started our lives in the womb and regardless of whether you have children or have a womb yourself, the life-giving energy of the womb is something we can cultivate in our lives.
What is your story? Do you have a birth story to share (either your own birth or that of your children)? Have you given life to a new project or business? Are you going through your own process of rebirth? What would you like to bring to this circle to share with others and weave into your own piece of fibre art?
We will be working with cotton rope and recycled sari silk (in a range of colours) to create your uterus wall hanging. Techniques involved are wrapping the rope with the silk, then sewing into place and combing and trimming the fringe.

Hi, my name is Kristyn. I am a fibre artist based in the Blue Mountains of NSW and I work with the crafts of macrame, crochet and weaving.
I started crafting after my second child was born and quickly became addicted. What started as a therapeutic hobby has now turned into a small business and I am absolutely loving being a part of the creative community in the Blue Mountains.
I have a strong focus on using recycled or second-hand materials and the majority of my materials are purchased second hand. I love upcycling old things and giving them new life as beautiful home decor items!
I have been teaching macrame workshops for the past few years and I absolutely it.
