Social Art Day

Our regular Social Art Days are your opportunity to come along and work on your latest Paper Art project in the company of like-minded artists.These sessions are a great motivational opportunity to resolve some UFOs (unfinished objects) that may be on your to-do list. You can also ask for feedback and advice from other artists in the group.You can work on anything you like – it could be practising your sketching, playing with watercolours, gelli printing, printmaking, collage, making books etc.For inspiration, we have an extensive natural history collection including found objects like seed pods and birds’ nests as well as pinned insect collections.You can also access our extensive library resources – a bookcase full of artistic inspiration and instructions for all sorts of paper art techniques.If you have printmaking experience, you can access our printmaking equipment including the etching presses and our vacuum UV unit. No tuition is provided and to use the major equipment you must have had a studio induction.This isn't a workshop or tutored class. But if you bring your own project, equipment and have basic skills, we're sure someone in the group will be able to give you advice on any art-related issues you may have!The cost of the sessions depends on your needs:

• BYO Project - You bring your own tools and supplies
• Print - BYO inks – You supply your own papers, plates, disposable gloves, and inks.
• Print - use Studio inks and consumables – You supply your own papers and plates, but you can use our inks. We have Akua soy-based inks and Caligo Safe-Wash Oil based ink. We supply consumables like gloves, paper towel, detergents etc.

If you don’t have any printmaking paper or watercolour paper, you can purchase some at the studio for $10 per sheet, please bring cash.Every Social Art Day session runs from 9.30am to 2.30pm, but you can come and go as you like to suit your day.

All ages and art levels are welcome.
  Morning tea - coffee, tea, cold water, and something yummy to nibble on.
 

• Your project - materials, tools etc. We have some equipment and materials you can freely use.
• Your lunch and snacks.
