Working from a small studio, Melody Brunton seeks to creates works that celebrates the dynamicity of clay, attempting to capture the flux of the medium - immortalising the materials from the land into ceramic pieces.
The interplay of clay, the elements and the human hand in the ceramic practice parallels the synergy we need to carry in our day to day - a working together between our human hands and the natural world we live in.
Melody's work is also informed by her Japanese cultural roots, in tandem with the Australian context which she creates in. The Japanese sensibility of practical yet beautiful craft as expressed in Sotsue Yanagi exploration of mingei (hand-crafted art of ordinary people) is core to her practice.
